We have rebuilt Saab distributors available for most models. A weak ignition coil will give your Saab poor performance and mileage these are easy to replace and do wear out.
Saab Ignition System Service Tips
Make sure that the vacuum advance diaphragm is not punctured by checking with a hand powered vacuum pump
Make sure that your Saab’s ignition coil is up to snuff. One way to test the high voltage side is with a timing light. If it is not flashing brightly then your coil is weak. So if the light is not bright enough to light up the timing marks, you probably need a new ignition coil which are not that expensive and easy to replace.
Adjust the ignition timing for proper performance. This can make a significant difference.
Vacuum leaks in the intake side of the engine can be misdiagnosed as ignition problems.
Check ignition wires (distributor to spark plugs) with a digital ohm meter to determine serviceability.
Once a spark plug is fouled it is trashed. Do not clean spark plugs with a wire brush.
Always check the gap on spark plugs you install in your car. Spark plugs are pre-gapped at the factory, the problem with this is it is not the specification for your car!
Use a torque wrench to install plugs that way you get the proper torque for sealing the plugs yet don’t strip the threads.
